An ocean
An ocean is a body of water filled with salt water and an important component of the Earth. About 71% of Earth (361 million square kilometers) is covered by continuous oceans. This body of water divides the earth's surface into many oceans and many small seas. More than half of the oceans are over 3,000 meters (9,800 feet) deep.
The average salinity of seawater is 35 parts per thousand (35%). Generally, whole seawater has a salinity of 30 – 38 parts per thousand on average. Although each of the oceans is generally considered to be a number of 'individual' oceans, they are collectively referred to as the world ocean or global ocean. Oceanography, a field of geography, oceans are continuous bodies of water and these are of fundamental importance
