Lake Maporika, New Zealand
A lake is a body of water surrounded by land. The word lake is derived from the Latin word lacus. An inland body of water that is not part of an ocean is called a lake. Most of the lakes are freshwater lakes. These are located in the highest regions of the Northern Hemisphere of the world.
Large inland lakes are sometimes called small seas. Many lakes are artificially constructed. They are built for hydroelectric power generation and water distribution, and for recreational use. Larger and deeper than the pond, these dams draw water from the river itself [32][33]. Apart from Earth, only Titan, a moon of Saturn, has lakes.
