Microbes were the first form of multicellular organisms on earth. Before the emergence
of multicellular organisms, these were the only organisms on Earth for millions of
years[62]. Microorganisms are normally single-celled organisms that are invisible to
the eye and can only be seen with the help of a microscope. Some examples are bacteria,
fungi, archaea, protists. Microorganisms are found everywhere on Earth.
Microorganisms abound wherever there is water, including indoors [63].
Their reproduction occurs quickly and abundantly. Linear mutation [64] and high
mutation rates combine to make microbes highly adaptable organisms.
Thus they survive in new environments including space [65]. They form essential
organisms for the Earth's ecosystem.
